Let's Discuss Olive Oil

I am a big believer in the old adage that you are what you eat. I also believe it is quite difficult to remain strong and healthy if you choose to eat fast food every day.

On this particular afternoon, I decided to do a story on olive oil -- not to be confused with Popeye's girlfriend! I am sure that most of you are already familiar with the fact that olive oil is quite beneficial to one's health, but I thought I would recommend a few articles in order to boost your knowledge of the subject nevertheless.

In answering the question of why olive oil is exceptionally healthy, the website, which I highly recommend, explains that the antioxidants found in olive oil can aid in fighting a wide range of diseases. Moreover, they also explain that olive oil is a great source of "monounsaturated fatty acids" which happens to be a fat which has been known to help contribute to healthy blood cholesterol levels.

Read about it here:

Olive oil times also has a gives a long list of health benefits one may receive after adding olive oil to their daily diet right here:

I would also like to encourage you to visit Elana Paravantes’s article on In Paravantes’s article she details five benefits of olive oil. One of the unexpected perks of olive oil, which may really surprise you, is that it may actually  be conducive to improved brain health, and help prevent cognitive decline throughout the aging process.

Read about it, as well as the other four benefits she lists, right here:

Till next time and happy eating!

Stay Away from the Cream!

Many people, myself included, believe sipping on a nice cup of freshly brewed coffee is the best way to start the day. I personally prefer to drink my coffee black, which, I would argue, is the manliest way to drink it. I have some cowboy in me, and therefore it may not surprise you to learn that one of my theme songs happens to be Billy Currington's "That's How Country Boys Roll." Currington begins this tune by singing "they wake up in the mornin' and they drink their coffee black," which describes me to a tee. However, country songs and manliness aside, according to an article written by Anna Azvolinsky and published on , drinking coffee black actually happens to be  the healthiest way to drink it, which is far more important. Azvolinksy also writes of a study in this article which shows that coffee drinkers may actually live longer than non-coffee drinkers as well.

Leah DiPlacido, Ph.D. also has an excellent article on which is titled "Health Benefits of Black Coffee." In DiPlacido's article, she debunks the theory that drinking coffee frequently can have a negative effect on one's blood pressure, as regular coffee drinkers build up a tolerance to caffeine, which consequently prevents their blood pressure from spiking. DiPlacido also proceeds to mention Harvard Medical School studies, and describes how, according to Harvard, coffee drinkers are much less likely to suffer from liver cancer than non-coffee drinkers. She also states that these studies have shown that coffee drinkers are less likely to suffer from other forms of cancer as well. Moreover, DiPlacido also reports that coffee drinkers are also less likely to develop diabetes according to the aforementioned studies conducted by Harvard Medical School.

Be sure to check out Shannon Clark's article on as well, which is entitled "5 Unexpected Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee," right here:

This is yet another tremendous article on the subject!

I would like to conclude this post by quoting another one of my favorite country songs which is "The Secret of Life" by Faith Hill. In this song, you will hear her sing the lyric "the secret of life is a good cup of coffee," and, after reading these articles, I am beginning to wonder if the secret to a long life is a good cup of coffee!

Scrumptious Salmon

Dear Readers,
The photograph above shows a 14 oz. serving of Alaskan sockeye salmon. One of the reasons I started TWAM was to blog about manly meals, and my fellow Alpha Males, I can certainly vouch that you will feel  the urge to growl like a grizzly bear after devouring one of these bad boys! Moreover, salmon is also very good for you. Salmon is loaded with vital omega-3 fatty acids, as well as other important vitamins, and if your salmon is wild, as opposed to farm raised, it is one of the healthiest main courses you can possibly digest.

In 2011, Wendy Melton, of, wrote a tremendous article in which she detailed the health benefits of eating red salmon impeccably. In her article, she describes how the aforementioned omega-3 fatty acids, as well as the additional vitamins and minerals found in salmon, can serve to better shield the heart against disease, boost cardiovascular function, enhance metabolism, and strengthen tissue throughout the body.

Let's talk about Cowboy Boots

I would like to begin this post by stating that I happen to believe that every man should own at least one pair of cowboy boots even if they do not plan to wear them regularly. The photograph above shows a stylish set of Lucchese wingtips, which I have owned for nearly five years, as I was fortunate enough to receive them as a high school graduation present. I had been coveting a set of wingtip boots ever since the first time I saw The Cowboy Way when I was 11 or 12. I had noticed how Woody Harrelson's character, Pepper Lewis, was sporting a pair and I decided right then and there that I needed to possess a set of my own someday and my wish ultimately came true.

I believe it is important to make note of the sheer number of awesome guys who are, or were, known for wearing cowboy boots throughout the last century such as John Wayne, Tom Selleck, and Dale Earnhardt. Everyone, for the most part, agrees that blue jeans, coupled with a pair of cowboy boots, is as about as American as it gets.

Cowboy boots have remained ubiquitous in the sport of baseball, our nation's favorite pastime, as well. In the 1960s and 1970s the Detroit Tigers Texas born slugger, Mr. "Stormin Norman" Cash frequently sported a pair, as did Billy Martin, the Yankees fiery and scrappy middle infielder turned manager. Nolan Ryan, the flamethrowing righty who hurled seven no hitters throughout his illustrious career, was known for sporting a pair of Justin boots as well. Moreover, Wade Boggs, Hall of Famer and member of the 3,000 hit club, was also a fellow cowboy boot wearer, and, while playing for the Red Sox, infamously, and unfortunately, injured his back on one occasion by putting them on. He consequently made Ray Holloman's "All Bizarre Injury Team" as a result of this incident.

See the full "All Bizarre Injury Team" right here:

From these gritty and exuberant baseball legends to my favorite country music stars of today such as George Strait, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Trace Adkins, and Blake Shelton, I believe the evidence is there to suggest that cowboy boots have remained a staple in the Alpha Male's wardrobe and likely always will.

An Alpha Meal

Gentlemen, I urge you to put down the veggie burgers, as well as the tofu, and go out and purchase some premium cuts! The photograph above shows what I like to call "An Alpha Meal." Sizzler steaks and a glass of pinot noir red wine are an exceptional combination, and adding the potatoes of your choice, will most certainly result in a fine meal for any Alpha Male. Moreover, I don't want to offend anyone, but studies have actually proven that real men eat meat! In 2011, Fiona Macrae, of, reported on a study which showed that men who are vegans are seen as less masculine even by women who do not identify as omnivores themselves.Read the full article here:, also in 2011, Sara Ipatenco of, wrote a highly informative article on the health benefits of eating red meat. Provided that your cuts are lean and organic, you will be supplying your body with crucial nutrients such as protein, iron, and zinc if you choose to devour a slab or two each week. Read the full article here: next time, BF

A Mother's Day Message

Dear Readers,
The lesson I would like for you to take away from this post, on this Mother's Day weekend, is that real men honor and respect their mothers. Consider the following quote from George Washington:

"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education I received from her."

There you have it Alphas. Our country's first President, and commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution, never forgot what his mother did for him. Neither should you. Make sure to remember to wish your mother a happy Mother's Day.
